SAND & SAGE HUNTING RETRIEVER CLUB

SPRING TRAINING & DEMO DAY!

February 23, 2008, Saturday

Beginning at 9am.

Horn Rapids County Park

FREE…..Open to anyone interested!

On Saturday we will hold an open training session for handlers and retrievers of all levels.  Our plan is to have a training area organized to accommodate beginner thru advanced level dogs and handlers.

The beginner level training will consist of short easy marks (retrieves) for inexperienced dogs and older puppies.

Puppies: We will have some dead birds on hand to expose pups and beginner dogs to and we will have experienced club members available to assist new dog handlers.

The advanced Training will consist of marks that will be longer and more complex. The dogs will experience long singles, doubles and maybe triples with blind retrieves that will require handling.

RETRIEVER DEMOS -- We will also intersperse some interesting RETRIEVER DEMOS thru out the morning. We will set up simple to complicated retrieves or concepts for hunting retrievers and then demonstrate how we teach a retriever to accomplish it thru 'drills' or other methods….All the while explaining what the purpose of the 'drills' are and how to achieve success with your retrievers.

We will not be able to use gunshot, starter pistols and/or blank shotshells during the training sessions.  Duck and goose calls will be used to get the dog’s attention prior to throwing a dummy or bird.
