Memorial for Ross Round

Ross Round, a founding member of SSHRC, died of a heart attack at age 54 on 5/23/08.  He was a backbone of this club and will be greatly missed.  Thank you Ross for all the time you donated to the club as well as being there for us when we needed you!  We hope we can live up to your vision of what this club was meant to be.

Sincerely,

SSHRC membership

The following are some of the emails we have received regarding Ross:

Ross was well liked and respected. Members' comments
about his death have first been shock and then recognition of his generous
nature. Always ready to help and encourage. His photography was art and it
inspired many to enjoy the adventures of hunting. He had a wonderful sense
of humor and was a true gentleman and sportsman.

I just wanted to add; Without Ross, Bailey and I  would have never gotten through our Senior title.  He was helpful, intelligent, and had a great sense of humor.... ....our club will not be the same....  What a great guy!

I am a member of the CCRCA, and have Curlies.  I just met Ross for the
first time last year at the specialty in Wisconsin.  I have been
reading his posts on email lists, and enjoying the pictures he shared
for several years.  When I met him I found him to be such a wonderful
guy, friendly, up-beat and ready to pitch in and help with
EVERYTHING!!  He will be sorely missed by the Curly-Coated Retriever
club, as I'm sure he will be missed by many of you.  I was so shocked
to see the post regarding his death.

My thoughts are with his friends and family.

When Hank and I met Ross and joined Sand and Sage, we had an Irish Water Spaniel and an American Water Spaniel. That put us with Ross as the only current members with "off breed" retrievers.  We trained together many times over the years, and Ross was always observant, helpful and supportive, even when pointing out problems. We never had to apologize for the quirks of our "off breeds," and he had many good ideas for training them.  Among many memories, I will always see him smiling and hear him saying, "let's hear it for the curly dogs!"
